Silver Seven Hockey Club - Competitive Team Selection Process
Competitive Team Try-Out
For categories where the OVSS Hockey Club will field a competitive team (A or AA) in the OEMHL A/AA League, try-outs will be held to select the competitive team.
Competitive Team Try-Out Process
A total of 10 hours may be used to select the competitive team, and players may be released after two sessions.
The following process is strongly recommended but may be modified based on number of players in attendance of the tryout for the competitive team’s level.
- Two sessions over two separate days will be used for initial evaluation:
- Skills and tactics evaluated are dependent on category (identified below)
- Format of try-out sessions are dependent on category and may include individual skills and tactics, team tactics, and team play
- Candidates will be reduced to 22-25 players and 3 or more goalies based exclusively on ranking within the standard evaluation rating system
- The potential coach or Director of Competitive assigned to oversee the level may choose to add additional players independent of the player ranking.
- Unsuccessful candidates will be asked to attend their home Associations tryouts following the initial evaluation
- OVSS Hockey Club competitive directors shall book on-ice staff & evaluators for the two initial tryouts; the Head Coach shall continue tryouts with their approved on-ice staff until the team is finalized.
- OVSS Hockey Club competitive directors ensure placement of successful candidate coach player if coach is a parent.
- Additional sessions may be held to select the final team.
- Format of additional try-out sessions are at the discretion of the coach and Director of Competitive and may include:
- Individual skills and tactics
- Team tactics
- Team play and exhibition games
